Bryan Oviedo has loved every minute of pre-season but admits he is more excited about the Barclays Premier League curtain-raiser later this month.

The Costa Rican international has featured heavily this summer, impressing at left-back throughout the Blues' six fixtures so far.

With just Sunday's game against Real Betis at Goodison left before the 2013/14 season gets underway with a trip to Norwich on 17 August, Oviedo is very much looking forward to his second campaign in English football.

"I am very excited," he told evertontv.

"Waiting for the first game of a new season, it's like a first day at school. We want Champions League qualification. It's very important for us and it's a dream for me to do that with Everton."

Oviedo only made three starts and 15 substitute appearances in 2012/13, but having amassed significant game time in Roberto Martinez's first games in charge, an increased involvement could be on the cards.

A versatile left-footed player, Oviedo shares the unenviable challenge of competing for a position with Leighton Baines.

Baines, in contrast to the 23-year-old, played every minute of the Everton's Premier League campaign last term - but Oviedo believes he is rising to the challenge of matching his fellow Blue.

"Leighton is an excellent player and an excellent person," he explained.

"He is one of the best left-backs in the world and I work hard so that I can play. Every training session I try to do well to stay at the same level as him.

"It's very good for me because I am looking all the time and it's a nice experience for me to play with one of the best players in the world.

"Personally, I feel very good at the moment and I need to work in every training session to win a place in the XI. It's nice for me [to be involved] and I want to help the team for the new season."

Tickets for Everton's final pre-season game against Real Betis at Goodison on Sunday are now on sale - priced at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors. Click here to buy.
