Everton Still Close To Joe-Max
Former Blue delighted with Club's visit to the US.
Joe-Max Moore watched Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Valencia in Miami and then declared his time at the Blues as his career highlight.
Moore made 64 appearances for Everton, scoring ten goals, and he still harbours genuine affection for the Club.
“It was the highlight of my career,” he told evertontv.
“I had some highlights with the national team, playing in World Cups and stuff like that, but playing in the Premier League was fantastic and I love the Club.
“It was nice coming in early and scoring a goal against Tottenham. I got off to a good start and I was getting a lot of playing time. Then the team changed and I was looking for balls from Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Campbell.
"That didn’t quite fit my style but I had a fantastic time in my three years there.”
Moore is one of only five players to have worn the royal Blue of Everton and accumulated 100 or more caps for his country - Nicklas Alexandersson, Landon Donovan, Kevin Kilbane and Li Wei Feng are the others.
And although he still looks good enough to play he admitted that, at the age of 42, he is very much a supporter these days.
“I’m a skinny fat guy!” he laughed. “I’m not quite as lean as I used to be and I definitely have a lot more wrinkles than I had back in my day. I’m not that involved anymore.
"I owe a lot to the game though and I help out with my son’s team from time to time.
“I moved my family all around for 15 years and when I retired I thought, ‘Do I still want that lifestyle?’, so I focussed on more traditional stuff.”
Assessing the Toffees' performance against Valencia in the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Moore agreed with the suggestion that the conditions played a part.
“Yes, it’s quite a bit different to the temperatures you get back in England,” he said.
“You’re in Florida and the humidity is outrageous. But it’s pre-season and there are always ups and downs in pre-season. You’re just looking to get through it without any injuries.”
