Lundstram: Rovers Loan Crucial
Under-21s man grateful for last season's spell at Doncaster.
John Lundstram has no doubts that his loan spell at Doncaster Rovers has made him a better player.
The Everton Under-21s midfielder thrived during temporary stint at the Keepmoat Stadium in the latter part of last season.
Coveted by a number of clubs following his imposing showings for Alan Stubbs’ side, the England youth international headed to south Yorkshire to sample senior football for the first time.
He returned to Goodison Park with 14 appearances under his belt and a League One winners’ medal after helping Rovers climb into the Championship with an incredible final-day victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford.
It may have only been three months away from Merseyside - but Lundstram insists it was invaluable experience at a crucial stage of his career.
“I’ve experienced some things that I might never again in my career,” Lundstram told evertontv. “Just to play was brilliant and then to get the league win was overwhelming.
“There’s a lot more pressure on you [playing first-team football]. There is something at stake and there are fans paying to come and see you every week.
"It’s a lot more of a man’s game when you step into the football League but it was a good experience.
“It’s helped me a lot. I’ve grown in confidence and I’ve got more experience now than a few of the lads.”
Lundstram is currently in Spain preparing for Everton Under-21s’ final pre-season fixture against Real Betis B on Wednesday evening.
