Seamus Coleman insists he wasn't overawed by being pitted against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Everton right-back Coleman found himself head-to-head with the Real Madrid superstar during Saturday's 2-1 friendly defeat to the Spanish side.

But the Irishman said he relished the challenge.

He told evertontv: "It was great experience. As a player you want to play against the best in the world and Real Madrid are certainly that. In the second half we did really well.

"You want to test yourself and I really enjoyed it when I saw his name on the teamsheet."

Coleman gave an energetic performance for the Blues and helped them fight back from a disappointing first half showing by crossing the ball which lead to Nikica Jelavic's goal.

He continued: "It took us a while to get going and in the second half we were a lot better so there are some positives to take.

"It was good to play a part in the goal but it's about the team and we didn't get the result. But there are positives to take.

"That is what it's all about, the Premier League, and preparing for it and we are looking forward to the first game of the season."
