U21s Set For Southport Test
Alan Stubbs previews Saturday's friendly.
Alan Stubbs is looking forward to Everton Under-21s' latest pre-season challenge when they face Conference North outfit Southport on Saturday afternoon.
After a meeting with an experienced Blackburn side on Wednesday, the Blues return to the Merseyrail Community Stadium, home to both sides after hosts Southport granted permission to ground-share as of January 2013.
And this summer friendly serves as a gesture of gratitude to the Sandgrounders' hospitality according to Stubbs.
"I think it's a matter of courtesy," he told evertonfc.com.
"We've got an agreement with Southport that allows us to play our Under-21 matches there and I think it's only right that we give them a pre-season game to try and get a few fans in to raise a bit of extra cash for them."
"It's another step along the pre-season path for us. While the results are not a major factor at this moment in time, the performances are. I'm hoping for us to build on those as each game goes and Saturday will be no different.
"If the players put the performances in, I know results will follow. This will be our third game, which will lead us nicely into another when we go to Spain next week and that should set us up to be ready for our first league fixture."
"It'll be another test for our lads. Physically they'll be playing against men who are playing in the Conference."
Kick-off at the Merseyrail Community Stadium is set for 3pm on Saturday. Admission is priced at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions. Please note that due to this being Southport's game, Everton Season Ticket holders and FOREVERTON members will not be able to gain free entry.
