Everton Win The Milk Cup
Success for the Under-15s in Northern Ireland.
Everton Under-15s have lifted the Milk Cup for the fourth time in six years after another dramatic penalty shootout victory.
The young Blues beat Watford on spot-kicks on Thursday – and they repeated those heroics against County Antrim in Friday afternoon’s final following a 1-1 draw in Ballymena.
Everton looked to be heading for defeat when County Antrim scored a controversial penalty with nine minutes of the game remaining.
But Michael Taylor netted a late equaliser, turning the ball in from close range following a corner from the left.
Everton netted their first four kicks in the shootout with Broadhead, Holland, Taylor and Bainbridge scoring from 12 yards.
Both sides then missed - but victory was confirmed when goalkeeper Matty Yorke dived low to his right to save County Antrim’s fifth penalty taker.
It’s the latest tournament success this summer for the Everton Academy after the Under-18s won the Gothia Cup in Sweden last month.
