Conor McAleny has revealed his former Everton teammates Jake Bidwell and Adam Forshaw convinced him Brentford was the right club at which to continue his development.

The striker moved to Griffin Park on a six-month loan deal last week and could make his first appearance for the Bees in their friendly against Premier League newcomers Cardiff City on Tuesday evening.

Bidwell and Forshaw both enjoyed successful loan spells with the League One club while on the Everton books before ultimately agreeing permanent deals.

“Adam and Jake are here, they have been phoning me and telling me how good it is,” McAleny said. “I am sure they will help me settle in.

“I was on the phone regularly to Adam and he has been talking Brentford up. That certainly helped me make my decision.”

After McAleny’s switch to Brentford was rubber-stamped, Everton boss Roberto Martinez explained the 20-year-old was joining a club where he could progress in a ‘very controlled and positive environment’.

McAleny is also excited at the prospect of playing regular first-team football.

“This is a big time for me and I look forward to what it will bring,” he added.

“I need a bit more game time to get up to sharpness and I am looking forward to it.

“I am sure I will be alright. I can’t wait to get going.”
