Nikica Jelavic's brace against Blackburn Rovers in yesterday's pre-season friendly dominates the Everton coverage in Sunday's newspapers.
The Croatian international was on target twice as the Blues beat the Championship side 3-1 and match reports feature in the Daily Star Sunday, Sunday Mail, Sunday Express and Sunday Times.
The Sunday Mirror and The Sun on Sunday report on post-match comments made by boss Roberto Martinez that Jelavic is facing a four-way battle for a place in Everton's starting line-up, with Arouna Kone, Victor Anichebe and Kevin Mirallas providing all-important competition.
And the Sunday People carries a story about how impressed the Everton manager was with Jelavic's work rate.
Meanwhile The Sunday Express report that Everton are preparing a £15million move for Republic of Ireland and Wigan star James McCarthy. It is claimed that the creative midfielder is crucial to Martinez's plans for a successful campaign but the Blues could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur who are also interested in the 22-year-old.
The Sunday Express also suggest that the Everton boss is interested in securing a loan move for Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair.
Further transfer speculation links Everton with Chilean and Sevilla midfielder Gary Medel in the Sunday People.
Elsewhere in the national newspapers, The Daily Star on Sunday, Sunday Mirror, Sunday Express and The Mail on Sunday mention that Marouane Fellaini remains a possible transfer target for Manchester United and Arsenal.
