Howard Relishing US Tour
Blues keeper looking to step up fitness levels in his homeland.
The forthcoming tour of the United States represents a chance for Tim Howard to showcase Everton to his home nation.
But – more importantly – it is an opportunity for the Blues goalkeeper to get himself back in peak physical condition ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Howard was given an extended summer break following his international involvements and only linked up with his teammates at Finch Farm earlier this week.
He completed his first pre-season action at Blackburn on Saturday afternoon in what was the third run-out for the majority of the Blues’ first-team squad.
Everton now head across the Atlantic for the International Champions Cup – an eight-team tournament featuring some of biggest names in club football.
And Howard is convinced that he will have regained his match sharpness by the time the squad return from their three-match excursion.
“I’ve been around the block a time or two and I usually need about four games under my belt to feel like I am really ready for the season,” Howard told evertontv. “With the plan ahead, that seems like that will be in place.
“It’s hard to get everyone back on the same page in pre-season because our international schedules are so different. But as we progress through America and the tour we will slowly get on the same page, I'm sure.”
Everton’s schedule starts with a glamour game against Italian champions Juventus on Wednesday evening in San Francisco.
The following Saturday, 3 August, will see the Blues play in Los Angeles against Real Madrid or LA Galaxy, before a third match in Miami on either Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 August versus one of Valencia, AC Milan, Inter Milan or Valencia.
