Tim To The Rescue
Australian's late strike edges five-goal Ewood thriller.
Today we bring you the last of our classic Blackburn highlights ahead of Saturday's friendly at Ewood Park - a five-goal thriller from April 2010...
Tim Cahill bagged a late winner as Everton secured a dramatic 3-2 victory to win at Ewood Park for the first time in five attempts.
The Blues were in front twice in the match only for the home side to pin them back each time.
A penalty from Mikel Arteta after four minutes gave the Toffees the lead, with Rovers taking until the second half to register a reply.
With just over 20 minutes to play, Steven Nzonzi released a 30-yard thunderbolt to equalise for the hosts, giving Blues goalkeeper Tim Howard no chance.
Ten more minutes of play passed and then Everton manager David Moyes introduced Nigerian hitman Yakubu from the bench. It took a matter of seconds for the Yak to fire his side back in front as he headed past Paul Robinson from close range with his first touch of the match.
However, Blackburn fought back again and - with the celebrations from Yakubu’s strike having only just eased - Jason Roberts smashed in from 20 yards to draw the scores level once more.
But then up stepped Cahill to add a final act of drama, the Australian tapping in Yakubu’s cross to snatch three precious points and spark wild away end celebrations.
