McAleny Loaned To Brentford
Young striker joins League One club until January.
Everton striker Conor McAleny has joined Brentford on a six-month loan deal.
The 20-year-old has teamed up with Bees boss Uwe Rosler and his squad ahead of their League One campaign which commences with a trip to Port Vale on Saturday 3 August.
Blues boss Roberto Martinez says McAleny’s temporary switch to the capital - which runs until Monday 6 January, 2014 - is the perfect move at this stage of his career.
Martinez told evertontv: “Conor has been doing really well in pre-season. He’s a boy that’s got a real talent and a real knack for scoring goals out of nothing and that’s something that in football is rare to have.
“For Conor, the next stage is to play some first team football and we’ve got that opportunity to do it at Brentford, a setup that is very well run and manager that is going to allow Conor to develop.
“We are very happy to be able to allow Conor to go and play his football and to carry on his development in a very controlled environment and in a positive environment.”
McAleny will be reunited with former Everton academy teammates Adam Forshaw and Jake Bidwell who both enjoyed successful loan spells with Brentford before completing permanent transfers to the west London club.
After the disappointment of losing to Yeovil Town in the League One play-off final in May, Brentford boss Rosler is confident McAleny's goals can help launch another promotion push this season.
“We have a good relationship with Everton and have had good feedback on Conor both as a player and a person," explained Rosler.
“Conor is a goal scorer. He is a player who can operate deeper if required and score from there and he can play in a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2.
“He is a very versatile forward and I think he will add goals to our squad. He is a good finisher and doesn’t need many chances to score.
“We are very happy to get a player we have known about for a long time and we expect him to have a very successful loan spell, like Jake Bidwell and Adam Forshaw.
“I am looking forward to working with him.”
McAleny has played twice for Everton’s first team - both Premier League substitute appearances against Arsenal and Norwich City in December 2011.
Injury hampered the Liverpool-born youngster's progress last season but he still managed to score 10 goals for Everton Under-21s, including strikes against Newcastle United at Goodison Park and Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the end-of-season play-off rounds.
McAleny’s first action for Brentford could be in their final pre-season friendly against Premier League newcomers Cardiff City next Tuesday.
