Coleman Eyes Starting Role
Irishman keen to feature in any Blues formation.
Seamus Coleman wants to earn a place in Roberto Martinez's Everton line-up - whichever formation the Spaniard opts to deploy.
Much talk has centred around the new manager's likely formation, with Coleman being touted as an ideal fit for a potential wing-back role.
But the Irishman insists he's focusing on training hard rather than where he might be operating during the forthcoming season.
"I know the manager has talked about formations and as full-backs we like to get forward," Coleman told evertontv.
"Tony Hibbert is back from injury having missed a lot of last season so me and him will be fighting it out - and it's up to me to keep playing well and try to stay in the team.
"Attacking is a big part of my game, trying to get forward as much as I can, but as a full-back your first job is to defend."
Indeed, Coleman believes his defensive qualities have improved following an extended run in the side last term.
He added: "As last season went on I think I got stronger defensively. It's my proper position but I hadn't played regularly there since being on loan at Blackpool. Then I came in and got a few games there and started playing regularly."
Coleman is fully relishing the Martinez era having previously only worked under David Moyes during his time at Everton.
The 24-year-old continued: "It has been different. Since I have been here it had just been David Moyes so it's a big change but it's been really enjoyable.
"It's up to us now to try to impress this manager as much as we can. It's a clean slate and I'm looking forward to doing my best."
