Friday’s local newspapers report that Everton are being ‘priced out’ of the race to sign Wigan Athletic’s James McCarthy.

The Liverpool Echo say that Roberto Martinez wants to add the midfielder to his squad but Tottenham Hotspur’s interest is likely to inflate any transfer fee.

Also in the Echo is a double page spread on Phil Jagielka who this week had his name added to the captains’ board in the Park End at Goodison.

Antolin Alcaraz is also mentioned in the same paper with manager Martinez saying he has been impressed at how quickly the defender has adjusted to life with the Blues.

England Women’s disappointing exit from the European Championships is reported in the Echo and national newspapers The Guardian and The Independent.

Everton Ladies’ Jill Scott and Toni Duggan both played in Thursday’s 3-0 defeat to France – a result which rubber-stamped the Lionesses’ elimination.

Elsewhere, The Times mentions Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines in an article discussing Wayne Rooney’s future and the players that David Moyes could bring to Old Trafford this summer.
