Martinez Praises Professionalism
Blues boss pleased with efforts at Accrington.
Roberto Martinez has praised the professionalism of his players in the 4-1 win at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening.
The Blues ran out comfortable winners in the pre-season meeting at the Store First Stadium, with goals from Darron Gibson, Victor Anichebe, Kevin Mirallas and Leon Osman adding to a bright team performance.
The scoreline gave Martinez his first win as Everton manager, but he insisted at the final whistle, the result was not the priority.
"It wasn't about winning or losing," he told evertontv.
"It was about having a good attitude and approach. We used the game for a good physical exercise.
"The professionalism was outstanding. It was really good to see the fans enjoying what turned out to be a really good workout."
With plenty of attacking play and well-worked goals, the Blues' display was pleasing to the eye, particularly at this early stage of pre-season.
And Martinez said: "Every player has been working and that is a very positive thing.
"The composure of when to pass the ball and when to run forward was good. We had to defend at times. Accrington showed a real spirit and we wish them well for the season.
"The understanding between the players is clear. In the attacking third, they look really lively and we're still in that period of working with a lot of volume so it's pleasing to see such a bright performance."
