"I've Learned From The Best"
Deulofeu says Messi and Iniesta have helped improve his ability.
Everton’s latest signing Gerard Deulofeu is aiming to bring a little bit of Barcelona magic to Goodison Park.
The Blues won the race to sign the highly-coveted playmaker on Wednesday, with the 19-year-old agreeing a season-long loan switch from the La Liga champions.
Deulofeu arrives on Merseyside with a reputation as one of the hottest young footballing talents in Spain.
And the forward can’t wait to entertain the Everton faithful with the skills he sharpened in the Catalan capital.
Speaking exclusively to evertontv, Deulofeu said: “I’m an attacking player and I can play wide. I’m quite quick, quite decent at one-on-one situations and I’m looking forward very much to helping the Everton team.
"Obviously training at Barcelona is a fantastic experience. You train alongside players like Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta who are clearly some of the best players in the world. To learn from them is a very nice experience."
Deulofeu has so far made only a handful of cameo appearances for Barcelona’s first team and spent last season with their ‘B’ side, scoring 18 goals in Spanish football’s second tier.
Most recently, the teenager starred at this summer’s Under-20s World Cup in Turkey. He netted a brace in Spain’s 4-1 group stage victory over USA before the Iberian nation exited at the quarter-final stage.
After his busy summer schedule, Deulofeu will now enjoy a short break before linking up with his new Everton teammates later in pre-season.
“It was a great and pleasant experience,” Deulofeu said of his time at the World Cup. “We were up against some teams like Mexico who we were able to get through against. We didn’t quite manage it against Uruguay, but it was a great experience.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting started. Obviously I have got a few days holiday coming my way because I have just finished in the tournament but I can’t wait to get started.”
