Everton’s transfer activity receives widespread coverage in Wednesday’s papers.
The Blues announced the signings of Antolin Alcaraz and Joel Robles on Tuesday evening – and the Daily Star, the Guardian, the Independent and the Daily Telegraph all report on these two additions to the Blues’ squad in their morning editions.
The back page of the Liverpool Echo features a photograph of Alcaraz posing in the new Everton home shirt, along with quotes from the defender who says that he arrives at Goodison Park determined to win his place in Roberto Martinez’s team.
Part two of the Echo’s ‘Roberto Martinez story’ series focuses on the Spaniard’s time with Wigan as a player, concentrating on the ‘Three Amigos’ era during the mid-1990s.
Also in the Echo’s sports pages, there are more tributes to the late Dave Hickson who passed away on Monday. Former Everton manager Howard Kendall and ex-Liverpool player Ian Callaghan are amongst the many people who have been recalling their favourite memories of the ‘Cannonball Kid’.
Meanwhile, the Daily Express claim that Everton are close to making a fourth summer signing. Barcelona B winger Gerard Deulofeu, 19, is said to be nearing a loan switch to Goodison – a move the paper describe as a ‘major coup’.
