The passing of Dave Hickson dominates Tuesday’s Liverpool Echo.
An obituary of the Everton legend, along with tributes from friends and teammates, features over four pages of the paper, including a double page spread in the sports section under the headline of ‘True Football Hero ’.
The Echo also start their ‘Roberto Martinez story’ with part one reflecting on the Everton manager’s early life in his homeland of Spain. The feature also looks at how the 39-year-old started out his footballing journey with hometown club Balaguer.
Arouna Kone’s transfer to Everton receives widespread coverage in the national newspapers. The Daily Star and The Daily Mirror feature quotes from the Ivorian who says that he has moved to Goodison Park to win trophies.
With Kone now a confirmed Evertonian, the Daily Mail says that Martinez is looking to add another forward to his ranks. The Blues are said to be lining up a move for Chelsea forward Victor Moses, while Spartak Moscow’s Aiden McGeady and Swansea’s Nathan Dyer are also said to be targets for the Toffees boss, as is defender Antolin Alcaraz and goalkeeper Joel Robles.
The Daily Mail also reports that Norwich City are stepping up their interest in Leroy Fer, the FC Twente midfielder who was close to joining Everton in January. The same article also says that Manchester United are preparing a second bid for Leighton Baines.
