Joel Robles is looking forward to competing with Tim Howard for the position of the Everton's first choice goalkeeper.

But he admits it will not be an easy task dislodging the 'great' American from his role as the Club's number one stopper.

Robles, 23, became Roberto Martinez's third signing as Everton manager on Tuesday, following Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz through the door at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard believes his game can only benefit from working alongside Howard, who is 11 years his senior and has been the Blues' first choice custodian since joining from Manchester United in 2006.

"It is a great honour to come to this club and work with Tim," Robles said in an exclusive evertontv interview.

"He is a great, great goalkeeper and I am looking forward to learning a lot from him.

"Obviously we will be competing together and it's the manager's decision at the end of the day about who he chooses.

Robles continued: "I can't wait to get started at such a big club. Roberto Martinez being here was a major factor in me coming here. I firmly believe that he will take Everton to even greater heights. We are all here to achieve that aim.

"I am also delighted to be back working with [goalkeeping coach] Inaki Bergara again. He is a great professional and a really nice guy."

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the former Atletico Madrid stopper believes his style is perfectly suited for the rough and tumble of English football.

And his 13 appearances on loan at Wigan last season have only whetted his appetite for more Premier League action.

"I am a very ambitious goalkeeper, so continuing in the Premier League is superb," added Robles.

"I think my physical presence is one of my major attributes that I think goes well with the type of football in the Premier League.

"I enjoyed the Premier League last year. It is clearly the most important league in the world. I am just delighted to have the opportunity to continue that at such a great club like Everton."

Robles could make his first appearance in the opening summer friendly against Austria Vienna on Sunday. To watch the game exclusively online, click here and sign up.
