Boss: Let's Build A Fortress
Martinez keen for last season's strong home form to continue.
Roberto Martinez says keeping Goodison a fortress will be key if Everton are to make forward steps in 2013/14.
The Blues learned on Wednesday that they will kick off their Barclays Premier League campaign away from home for only the third time in 11 years with a trip to Norwich City on Saturday 17 August.
Martinez can then look forward to his first competitive taste of life in the Goodison dugout when West Bromwich Albion visit seven days later.
Further home games against Chelsea, Newcastle United and Hull City will follow before the end of October and the Spaniard has already confessed his excitement at sending out a team in front of his new fans.
Last season, the Blues suffered just a single league defeat at home - form Martinez is keen to replicate in his first term at the helm.
“I do feel Goodison Park plays a massive part on the running of the team and the results of the team,” he said in an exclusive interview with evertontv.
“It’s there for everyone to see. Only one defeat at home last season in the Premier League is an incredible stat.
“It’s a feeling that Goodison Park develops and that is something we need to use as a massive, massive strength.
“I’m really looking forward to doing that but, as always, it is about players and about them developing that enjoyment of representing their football club and making sure the fans are right behind them.
“That way we can become a very strong team and enjoy our football.”
