Scott Ready For Reds

Everton Ladies prepare for Tuesday's Merseyside derby.

Jill Scott is confident Everton Ladies can extend their unbeaten run to six matches by taking the derby day honours on Tuesday evening.

The Blues face cross-city rivals Liverpool in the Women’s Super League after securing three victories and two draws last month.

Andy Spence’s side were held to a 2-2 draw against Doncaster Rovers Belles in their previous outing last Thursday but a victory at Marine’s Arriva Stadium would put them within one point of their league-leading neighbours.

“This game is massive for us,” captain Scott told evertontv.

“We feel like we have done alright recently. We felt like our performance in the game just gone against Doncaster Belles was spot on but we just didn’t get the result that we wanted.

“We know that we need the points to climb higher in the table and derby matches are always tasty.

“We are improving with every game. We do a lot of work on analysis and the girls have worked really hard to put things right.

“We are starting to concede less goals, whereas at the start of the season it was a problem. If we can start to correct these things then hopefully everything will come together soon.”

Everton Ladies have not lost to Liverpool since the formation of the Super League in 2011 and last term enjoyed home and away victories.

Scott, however, believes the standard between the two teams is now closer, a point highlighted when the Merseyside clubs raised the curtain on this season by playing out a competitive 1-1 draw in the Continental Cup back in March.

“It was a really tough game - I think all the girls would say that. There were a lot of challenges going in and I know that we had to work hard for the whole 90 minutes,” explained the England international.

“There was a lot of hype around the derby games in the past, even though there was a gap between the two teams with Liverpool having finished bottom of the WSL for the last two seasons.

“It was always a tasty game but with the transfer of some players going from us to them, it just makes it even more feisty.”

Everton Ladies are boosted by the return of Toni Duggan for Tuesday’s clash after the striker completed her one-match suspension for collecting five yellow cards.

“Toni is a massive player for us and she has had a really good season so far,” added 26-year-old Scott. “She has scored quite a lot of goals and really put in good performances for the team.

“It was a massive miss not to have her against Doncaster Belles but hopefully she will be rested and raring to go on Tuesday.”

Kick-off against Liverpool this Tuesday (4 June) is at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at only £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. Supporters can buy tickets at the gate on the day of the game.
