Leon Osman says he is excited at the prospect of being part of a new era at Everton.

With the exception of a couple of loan spells early in his career, the 32-year-old had only previously worked under former boss David Moyes during his senior Blues career after being handed his first team debut by the Scot in January 2003.

With the Toffees to appoint a new manager this summer, Osman - who last week signed a two-year contract extension - is eager to return after the close-season break ready to impress the next incumbent of the Goodison Park hot-seat – whoever it may be.

“It’s a relief to have penned the contract,” Osman told evertontv. “Firstly I can go and enjoy the summer and relax knowing that’s sorted.

“Then it’s about getting my head down, working and achieving something for the Club next season.

“It’s going to be a new challenge and someone new to impress which should raise the bar for everyone at the Club.

“Everyone will have to step up and perform, so I look forward to the challenge.”

Prior to departing for Old Trafford, Moyes described Osman’s performances as ‘exceptional', saying that he had carried Everton for periods of last season.

2012/13 saw Osman complete a decade of service at the Club as well as winning his first caps for England.

Injury prevented the midfielder from competing in the final match of the campaign at Chelsea and the Three Lions’ forthcoming two friendly matches against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

But Osman agreed with his former mentor Moyes that the last year has been his most influential in an Everton shirt.

“I have played a lot more games in the middle of midfield which I always said was my favoured position and hopefully we all saw the benefits from that,” added the academy graduate.

“To have played for this Club all this time and then to finally get an England cap on top of that, I couldn’t have been happier with the way it went.”
