Former Everton star Pat Nevin believes David Moyes' successor faces a more difficult task than the man about to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Moyes will officially take over the Premier League champions on 1 July with the hunt for his Goodison Park replacement already underway.

But after what were widely-regarded as 11 years of upwards progress under the Scot, Nevin says the next Toffees boss will be stepping in to one of the biggest jobs around.

"To some degree I would almost argue it's a tougher gig than Moyes following on from Sir Alex Ferguson," he told evertonfc.com. "To be there for the length of time Moyes has been in the modern era is absolutely brilliant.

“And because he brought influence and a real spirit to the Club after they'd been up and down for a few years, it will be tough for whoever comes in."

Despite the daunting nature of the role, Nevin expects no shortage of interest in the vacancy and says the next incumbent will learn quickly what a uniquely special Club they're steering.

"I don't feel sorry for whoever it is because it is a brilliant, amazing club to manage, a club that just feels real," he added.

"It feels like a real honest-to-goodness English football club. So anyone who comes into that is going to pick up all the positives.

“The fan base is brilliant and if you do work hard, work right and play stylish football you will be taken to the hearts of the people that are there,” he added.

"They're a knowledgeable group of fans as well. There are some groups of fans who are very, very quick to turn and not very understanding of how sometimes it takes a little while to adapt and turn things around when there are weaknesses for a variety of reasons. But, generally, the Everton fans get it, they've understood that."

A.S KanjiLet's stop going on about how good the job is... makes it sound as if we're still trying to shortlist...to be honest it's starting to sound a little desperate now!
