What The Papers Say - 20 May

Moyes says farewell as Ferguson flies over Goodison.

What The Papers Say - 20 May

No prizes for guessing who dominates today's newspaper coverage both locally and nationally.

After 11 years at the helm, David Moyes' time as Everton boss came to an end yesterday with a 2-1 defeat at Chelsea.

Speaking after his final game, the Scot is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying he hopes his lasting legacy is the altered mentality which means the Club is now expected to mix it with the Premier League's very top sides.

The same paper provides a match report of yesterday's game, while Everton correspondent Greg O'Keeffe says Moyes' successor will need to address goalscoring flaws highlighted during the trip to Stamford Bridge.

In the Daily Mirror, Moyes says he is 'sad' to be leaving and reflects on a final game defeat he believed was harsh given his side's spirited performance.

The Times reports Moyes' job is not quite done though, as the outgoing boss will spend this week at Finch Farm tidying up his paperwork and saying his farewells.

Writing for his regular column in the Daily Telegraph, Alan Hansen questions whether the former Preston chief will inherit a truly great Manchester United team, saying Sir Alex Ferguson's chosen replacement faces a 'really hard job' sustaining success at Old Trafford. The player-turned-pundit says he is unconvinced United’s current best line-up is as strong as that of Manchester City or Chelsea.

And to end on a more light-hearted note, the Liverpool Echo carry the story of Duncan Ferguson's charity zip slide across Goodison Park.

The big Scot completed the challenge on Saturday to help raise money for Everton in the Community.

Joe QuinnGood luck to Moyesey is right but Howard Kendall was the best manager ever. Let's hope we get Slaven Bilic now to take us to a trophy laden era.
