What The Papers Say - 14 May

Jagielka and Howard look forward, Blues linked with Spain star.

What The Papers Say - 14 May

Unsurprisingly, much of today's newspaper coverage remains focused on David Moyes' imminent departure and Sunday's Goodison farewell.

The players are already looking to the future however, with Phil Jagielka and Tim Howard telling the Liverpool Echo and Daily Mirror respectively that the Scot has built a squad which will continue to move forward in his absence.

In the Echo, Moyes himself has urged his side to end the season with their best ever Premier League points tally - a story we also carried on evertonfc.com yesterday. The Blues currently have 63 points and a win at Chelsea on Sunday would see them surpass the total of 65 they achieved in 2004/05.

The Echo has also taken a closer look at one of the men rumoured to be in the running to replace Moyes, Porto boss Vitor Pereira, while columnist and former Blue Ian Snodin has backed chairman Bill Kenwright to bring in the right man whoever it be.

Snods also gives his thoughts on what he describes as a 'fitting Goodison finale' for Moyes and why it is so important for Everton to keep hold of Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini and not allow them, as rumoured in The Sun, to follow the departing Toffees chief to Manchester United.

The same paper also claims Moyes will try to tempt Phil Jagielka to Old Trafford, labelling the centre-half a £10million target. They also report Everton’s interest in a £10million-rated star - Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

And in more manager news, various papers report yesterday’s announcement that ex-Everton striker James Beattie has been handed the reins at League Two Accrington Stanley.

Matthew BrooksWould take Soldado in a heart beat. Don't want to lose Jags. Duffy needs more of a run. Prefer to keep Baines over Fellaini but we do need to strengthen.
