Pennington Wins Youth Prize
Matthew Pennington wins the Keith Tamlin award.
Matthew Pennington picked up the main award of the night at the Everton academy's end of season awards.
Defender Pennington, 18, received the Keith Tamlin award for all-round contribution to academy life.
Pennington has played for both the Under-18s and Under-21s this season and also forced his way into the England setup, making a debut for the Under-19s.
He told evertontv: "It feels really good. I wasn't expecting it. It's a prestigious award and a lot of good players have won it so hopefully I can emulate them.
"I have enjoyed playing for the Under-18s and I have enjoyed working with the Under-21s as well a couple of times. I was amazed to get the England call-up, that was really good."
"It helped that there were a few familiar faces when I went away with England, I was made up to be part of it."
Chris Long was named the Under-18s player of the year at the event, held at the ACC Liverpool adjacent to the Echo Arena.
Players from all academy sides from Under-6 to Under-18 were in attendance along with their parents, coaches and special guests.
All the guests reflected on another solid academy season which has seen several international tournament wins and has the Under-18s still battling for the league play-offs win.
