Duggan Ready For Chelsea

Everton Ladies in action at Marine on Sunday afternoon.

Duggan Ready For Chelsea

Toni Duggan is confident Everton Ladies can kick-start their season by downing Chelsea's international stars this weekend.

The Blues will line up for their first home fixture of the 2013 campaign this Sunday afternoon.

Andy Spence’s side are looking to progress in the Continental Cup after falling to a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Bristol Academy in their league opener, just four days after exiting the FA Women’s Cup to the same opponents.

WSL leaders Chelsea travel to Marine unbeaten after defeating Doncaster Rovers Belles and drawing with Birmingham City Ladies in their first two matches.

“We’ve got to focus on ourselves and we’ve got a good squad,” insisted England international Duggan, who already has seven goals to her name this season.

“We know that if we can perform to our best on the day then we can compete with them. We’re looking forward to it, it’ll be a test."

Distin DugganDuggan's skills impress Sylvain Distin on a recent visit to Finch Farm.

Ambitious Chelsea signalled their intent for 2013 by making several new signings during the close-season, including samba star Esther Aparecida dos Santos.

The Brazilian midfielder headed the list of high-profile recruits, with England star Eniola Aluko - sister of Hull City winger Sone - and Swede Sofia Jakobsson also moving to the capital.

Duggan added: “A lot has happened since the last season. There has been a lot of movement of players from club to club and obviously Chelsea have brought in a lot of internationals - they have brought in some Brazilians and Scandinavian girls.

“It’s good for the league and that’s what we want to be seeing; players wanting to come to England and play football here.

“The girls that have come in for Chelsea are internationals. They played in the Olympics so they will be a threat but it’s nothing that we can’t handle.”

Admission for Sunday’s game costs £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. Kick-off is at 2pm.
