Promotion Battle Intrigues Stubbs
Stubbs to follow League One tussle between Bidwell and Lundstram.
There will be two matches Alan Stubbs will be following with keen interest this Saturday afternoon.
As well as Everton’s clash with Fulham at Goodison Park, the Club’s Under-21s coach will also be keeping tabs on the crunch League One promotion-decider at Griffin Park involving two of the Toffees’ on-loan youngsters.
Jake Bidwell is set to face John Lundstram as Brentford host Doncaster Rovers. The prize for the winning club is a place in the Championship for next season.
And Stubbs believes it is great experience for the youngsters to be involved in a game of such importance.
“John’s flying high at Doncaster and he must be doing well because he is keeping his place in the team. Jake is the same,” Stubbs told evertontv.
“It’s great that we have got two boys out who have still got something to play for at the end of the season.
“They are at a stage in the season which has more relevance than ours [Everton’s Under-21s] but it’s along the same lines – it’s not about performances, it’s about getting results.”
Bidwell, 20, is in his second loan spell with the Bees, having spent the majority of the 2011/12 campaign in West London. The left-back has made 46 appearances this term and was part of the team that lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round.
Meanwhile, England Under-19s captain Lundstram joined Doncaster Rovers in mid-February and has been a regular in midfield for the South Yorkshire club, playing 13 times.
And Stubbs is confident both will return to Everton next season better players having tasted competitive football on a regular basis.
“Jake has been out on loan at Brentford for a while now, which has done him the world of good,” added Stubbs. “John has been at Doncaster for the best part of two months, maybe a touch longer.
“We are hoping that when we see these boys back again we will see a big difference.”
