Matthew Kennedy says Everton Under-21s are up for the challenge of remaining unbeaten until the end of the season.

The second-string qualified for the knockout phase of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League earlier this week, securing top spot in Group One with two games to spare.

And ahead of Thursday's home clash with Chelsea, winger Kennedy says the Blues have no intention of letting a 13-game unbeaten streak come to an end.

"It's job done [in terms of winning the group] but we've still got two games left and we'll try to get wins there," the 18-year-old told evertontv. "Alan Stubbs had challenged us to go unbeaten, we believed it and all the boys have shown that.

"The manager has been saying in the dressing room how pleased he is."

After those remaining fixtures, the Under-21s will face the winners of Group Two in a play-off round.

Another win there would seal a place in the semi-finals, with the other three berths awarded to the sides that finish first, second and third in the Elite Group.

And with plenty to look forward to before the end of the campaign, Scotland Under-19 international Kennedy is pleased with the way his first year at the Club has unfolded.

"I've enjoyed it from the start," he explained. "I was a bit nervous when I first came but all the boys and the coaching staff have made me feel welcome and part of a family.

"I think I've fitted in straight away because I've been starting games with the Under-18s and the Under-21s.

"I've enjoyed myself a lot and to finish top of this league has been a bonus."

Everton Under-21s face Chelsea at the Merseyrail Community Stadium on Thursday (7pm kick-off).

Everton Season Ticket holders and FOREVERTON members are able to gain free admission to all home Under-21 fixtures at Southport.

Members of the public can gain access by payment at the turnstiles (adults £5, concessions £3). Southport Season Ticket holders will also be able to gain entry for free.

For those unable to attend, evertonfc.com and the Club's official Twitter feed will provide updates, with highlights and interviews on evertontv from Friday.
