Beattie Double Crushes Cottagers
Classic highlights as Everton cruise past Fulham in March 2006.
Everton boast a formidable home record against Fulham having won 12 of the last 13 meetings between the clubs at Goodison Park.
Given that trend, unsurprisingly it was a routine three points for David Moyes’ team when the Cottagers visited Merseyside in March 2006, with James Beattie’s brace setting the Blues on their way to a comfortable 3-1 victory.
The striker, signed from Southampton the previous summer, put Everton ahead from the penalty spot on 15 minutes after he had been felled inside the box by Zat Knight.
Beattie added a superb second shortly before half-time, with his 20-yard chip putting the Toffees firmly in control at the interval.
Another great finish 10 minutes after the restart rubber stamped the victory. This time Beattie was the provider as he nodded the ball down for James McFadden to lash a 25-yard volley past Tony Warner.
Chris Coleman’s team got a goal back when Collins John scored from the spot after he was fouled by Tony Hibbert four minutes from time, but it proved no more than a consolation.
Everton eventually finished the campaign in 11th position, two points above Fulham.
