Winning Start For Moyes
Re-live the 2-1 victory over Fulham from March 2002.
The David Moyes era at Everton commenced in the best possible fashion in March 2002.
Forty-eight hours after his appointment to the Goodison Park hot-seat, the former Preston North End chief started his reign with a 2-1 home victory over newly-promoted Fulham.
Moyes had just taken his seat in the dugout following a rapturous pre-match welcome and immediately the Blues were ahead.
In fact, only 27 seconds had passed when David Unsworth unleashed a 20-yard effort which flew into the corner of the net, beating Dutch international Edwin van der Sar.
Twelve minutes later and it was 2-0, this time through Duncan Ferguson who charged down a clearance and slotted the ball into the Park End net.
However, the delighted supporters were brought down to earth before the half-hour mark when Thomas Gravesen was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.
A strike just after the interval from Steed Malbranque set up a nervy second half and tension mounted further when the Cottagers were denied an equaliser by the woodwork.
But after digging deep to protect their slender advantage, Everton held on for a memorable three points.
