What The Papers Say - 18 April

Thursday’s newspaper coverage again looks back over Everton’s scoreless draw with Arsenal on Tuesday evening.

In the Liverpool Echo, Ross Barkley once again receives the plaudits for his performance at the Emirates Stadium – this time from full-back Leighton Baines, who says that ‘nothing fazes’ the young midfielder. The England man also believes that Barkley will become a ‘top player’ for the Toffees .

Respected Independent journalist Sam Wallace has written a feature on Barkley’s promising future, saying that David Moyes must see ‘something out of the ordinary’ in the 19-year-old to start him in a game of such importance against Arsenal.

Tim Howard and Seamus Coleman also featured in the Liverpool Echo. American goalkeeper Howard has stressed that Everton can still finish in the top five and head to Sunderland boosted by their recent defensive showings , while Republic of Ireland defender Coleman has revealed that he has extra motivation for qualifying for Europe after listening to Phil Neville’s tales of the Champions League from his Manchester United days .

Baines also features in the Daily Mail and explains that having finished steadily in the top half of the Premier League table over a number of years, Everton are edging closer to challenging for the Champions League positions on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror reports that Jack Wilshere will not receive any retrospective punishment for his altercation with Kevin Mirallas at half-time during the midweek draw with Arsenal.
