Coleman Hails Neville
Defender thanks Club skipper for his support and guidance.
Seamus Coleman has expressed his personal thanks to Phil Neville for the support the Everton skipper has provided during his time at the Club.
Coleman was speaking on the day Neville confirmed he will be leaving Everton in the summer after eight years on Merseyside.
Signed from Sligo Rovers in January 2009, the first player Coleman met at the Club's training HQ was Neville.
He recalls: "I remember walking into the canteen on my first day and he was the first person I saw. The first thing he said to me was 'you know where I am if you need me. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it'.
"He didn't say that lightheartedly. He truly meant that and he has been true to his word. He is a true captain and a great Everton captain.
"When I heard the news (he was leaving) I was obviously a little bit disappointed. He's been a great captain and he's been great for me since I came to the Club.
"He's always only a text or phone call away if you need him. It is disappointing but I'm sure he has a lot of football left in him and he will look forward to the next chapter in his life."
But whilst many of the tributes to Neville since his announcement have focused on the former England international's credentials as a captain, Coleman insists his attributes as a footballer should not be overlooked.
He added: "He is probably sick of hearing just about his great attitude and approach because he is a top player as well. He has won six titles and the Champions League with Manchester United. You don't win that many trophies if you don't have something about you as a player."
