Moyes: Improve The Away Form
Boss wants recent Goodison results replicated on the road.
David Moyes has urged his players to rediscover their early season away form in order to take their push for a European place right to the end of the campaign.
The Toffees are on the road for the first time in six weeks this Sunday when they face Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Having won three successive home league matches during March, Moyes now wants this form replicated away from Merseyside.
Everton started the campaign in fine fashion, taking maximum points from trips to Villa Park and the Liberty Stadium. Draws were also recorded at Wigan, QPR and Fulham.
However, the Blues are without an away league victory since the trip to St James’ Park at the start of January.
“We have had a lot of home games with the way the fixtures worked out but I think it was more to do with the re-arranged fixture against Arsenal,” Moyes told evertontv. “It means we have got an overload of away games in this month of April coming up now.
“In the early part of the season [the away form] was better and we are going to have to try and improve on it in the remaining games and win some of those.”
Moyes believes resilience in defence will be the key ingredient to picking up points in the final eight matches – a theme supported in the recent wins over Manchester City and Stoke.
“To not concede any goals always gives you that chance of winning,” explained the Blues boss. “If you don’t score, at least you get a draw out of it.
“Thankfully we have been getting the results and we could do with another three or four clean sheets between now and the end of the season if we are to keep picking up points.”
Moyes also explained that it remains to be seen whether Everton’s week-long break, compared to Spurs’ quick three-day turnaround, will work as an advantage.
“I think when you have got extra games in midweek it can have an effect but in other ways it can keep you playing and keep you fresh,” he continued.
“You never really know but it has given us a chance to get ready for the game and hopefully we will be.”
