Win As Pleasing As Man City
Boss just as satisfied after Stoke as he was a fortnight ago.
David Moyes says he was as pleased with the hard-fought 1-0 win over Stoke City as he was following Everton’s victory over champions Manchester City two weeks earlier.
Kevin Mirallas’ solo effort helped the Blues march to their ninth home league win of the season and maintain occupancy of sixth position in the Premier League table.
“I’m nearly as pleased with that result as I was after the Manchester City win a fortnight ago,” said Moyes.
“We have not got a great record against Stoke City in the last five or six games, so I was glad to get over the line.
“It was a great individual goal [from Mirallas]. Sometimes against Stoke City that’s what you need – somebody who can take people on and beat them. Thankfully he did that from about 70 yards out.”
The win keeps Everton firmly in the hunt for European qualification, with a trip to White Hart Lane next on the schedule in eight days’ time.
“We believe that we are in there,” explained Moyes, whose side now trail Arsenal by two points and Chelsea by four.
“I don’t think we have ever been out of it and we are hanging in there. We are underdogs but we have got teams (above us) to play and we will go and give it a go. We have been close all season and matched most sides this year.
“Spurs are in a much stronger and healthy position than us but we have been there or thereabouts most of the season and not been too far away.”
