Victor Anichebe is aiming to end the season on a high and hit double figures for the first time in his senior Everton career.

The Nigerian is already enjoying his most prolific campaign to date having found the net seven times – but he is setting his sights on more goals in the final two months, starting against Stoke City this Saturday evening.

“There are nine games left and hopefully I can get a minimum of three goals from now until the end of the season,” Anichebe told evertontv after a surprise visit to meet children at Whiston Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

“I think I’ve had a really good season anyway but if I can get to double figures that would be even better.

“Obviously I can keep improving and doing better. This year is the most games I have played compared to in the past, so hopefully I can continue to stay fit, keep scoring and assisting with goals.

“It’s been a good season for me and a good season for Everton.”

After his magnificent display against Manchester City, Anichebe could keep his place in David Moyes’ team this weekend.

Should he get the nod by the Blues boss, it would represent a 50th Premier League start for the striker, who believes he is currently in peak physical condition.

“I don’t know anything about any of those things,” Anichebe insisted when asked about his upcoming milestone.

“Sometimes my friends will tell me stuff like that, like the fact that I have played more games this season [than in previous years], which I didn’t even know about.

“I’d have liked to have got to 50 starts before but because of injuries in the past it wasn’t to be.

“I’d like to think that this is [the fittest I’ve felt in a long time]. Touch wood nothing happens, but I feel strong this year and fit. Hopefully this can continue.”

While Everton’s international players were away representing their respective nations last week, Anichebe revealed that the remainder of the squad were given time to recuperate ahead of one final push for European qualification.

He said: “We weren’t really in much last week but the gaffer killed us on Monday and Tuesday, which was understandable.

“Most of the international boys came back today [Thursday] and we had a good session. Everyone is looking forward to the weekend.

“It’s about keeping the momentum going until the end of the season. There’s not many games left and if we can be consistent then we will see where we are.”

Anichebe Eggs 2Anichebe hands out Easter eggs during his visit to Whiston Hospital.

During his trip to the Whiston Hospital children’s wards, Anichebe brought with him an armful of Easter eggs.

He took time out after training to meet children who are currently being treated at the hospital, chatted with their families and posed for photographs with staff.

The hospital have three busy children’s wards and the young people were delighted to see a familiar face to brighten up their time.

Anichebe was also joined by staff from Everton in the Community to play a series of fun games at the children’s bedsides, and he was happy to be able to bring some Easter cheer to the wards.

“Going to see the smiles on the kids’ faces is always nice,” added the 24-year-old. “It’s a great feeling to see how happy they are.

“There were quite a few Evertonians and there were some Liverpool and Manchester United fans as well. It doesn’t really matter [who they support], just to come here and see them is great.”
