Hallam Hope is out to prove his worth after being included in the England Under-19s squad for the upcoming international against Turkey.

The Blues striker has been recalled to Noel Blake’s group following his omission from the last two matches against Finland and Denmark.

Hope was again overlooked when the squad was announced last Monday but, after receiving a late call, is now in line to add to his five international appearances at that age level.

Thursday’s friendly could also see Blues defensive duo Tyias Browning and Matthew Pennington make their England Under-19s debut, though John Stones has been forced to withdraw through injury.

With two goals for the Under-19s and a wealth of caps at previous England youth levels, Hope is determined to stake his claim by firing the Young Lions to victory at Telford - particularly with the European Championships in Lithuania on the horizon this coming summer.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Hope told evertontv. “I’ve not been in the team for most of this year but I’m happy to be back and hopefully I can score some goals.

“Hopefully I can do something good to stay in the team.”

Hope will be confident he can make an impression after marking his 19th birthday with a goal in Everton Under-21s’ 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.

His bullet header put the Blues two goals ahead, although Alan Stubbs’ men were forced to accept a point following the Villans late revival.

“It was good to score on my birthday,” explained the Manchester-born frontman. “It was special but it was more for the team.

“I’m glad to get on the scoresheet – the coaches said get towards the back post and I did, so I’m happy. I got in before the defender and headed it down. It was a good goal really.”

Despite throwing away two points, Hope is pleased with Everton’s current position in Group 1 of the Under-21s league.

With over half the fixtures now played, the Blues are in pole position to win the league and qualify for the play-offs.

Hope continued: “It’s a great position to be in. We were disappointed because we let it [the lead] slip but I’m happy to be six points clear with a game in hand.”
