Seamus Coleman says the watching world saw the real Everton beat Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
The full-back expressed his personal satisfaction as the Blues were able to bounce back from the previous week’s disappointment against Wigan with one of their best performances of the season in front of the live television cameras.
“I think we showed what we are all about,” Coleman said. “That wasn’t an Everton team against Wigan – we just didn’t turn up.
“Going down to 10 men, we kept working hard for each other. We are all mates here and that showed.”
“It was utterly disappointing to go out of the FA Cup,” added the Republic of Ireland international. “The manager got us on it this week and we went out there and we tried to repay the fans as much as we could. I think we did that.”
Meanwhile, Coleman’s defensive colleague John Heitinga is confident Everton can now launch an assault on the Premier League’s top-five when domestic action resumes a week on Saturday.
The Blues play their fifth home match in succession against Stoke City on 30 March, before facing potential season-defining trips to White Hart Lane, the Emirates Stadium, Anfield and Stamford Bridge during the final two months of the campaign.
"The way I see it now is that we have to play nine finals," Heitinga explained. "Before [the Man City game], I told myself we had 10 finals, and now we have nine left. I want to go and play with Everton in Europe.
"We have nine finals, and we must see it game by game. The squad is really strong, and the focus must only be on the next game."
