Distin Wins February Prize
French defender named Club's player of the month.
Sylvain Distin has been named Everton's player of the month for February.
The French defender collected his award on Thursday afternoon at a special lunch held at the Hilton Hotel in Liverpool city centre.
Distin started four of Everton’s five fixtures during February and became the first overseas outfield player to reach 400 Premier League appearances when the Blues played Norwich at the end of the month.
A summer arrival from Portsmouth in 2009, the 35-year-old has featured in 30 matches this season and signed a new one-year contract extension in January, extending his stay at Goodison Park until the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
Distin said: "It's really nice [to win the award] but I can't stop thinking about last weekend. I accept the award but I can't wait to be out on the pitch to try and put that game behind me.
"I'm rarely pleased with my own form, even if that sounds strange. After a game - no matter how good or bad I have played - all I remember is whether I made one little mistake, one moment in the game where I wasn't in the right place or didn't do the right thing.
“I've been like that for years, but maybe that is one of my strengths. I always look where I can get better or improve, even if it is by one, two or three per cent.
“But I have to be happy with my form because I am still playing and I know there is competition at the back. If I wasn't doing well then I wouldn't be playing."
