A dramatic final day of last season’s January transfer window saw the arrival of Nikica Jelavic and the return of Steven Pienaar.
On the same day, Everton also grafted to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Champions-to-be Manchester City, courtesy of Darron Gibson’s first goal in a Blue shirt.
The Irishman, who had swapped Old Trafford for Goodison Park just a few weeks earlier, decided an evenly-contested game on 60 minutes, although the luck was certainly with Everton that evening as Samir Nasri twice hit the bar for Roberto Mancini’s side.
Everton's win proved to be the catalyst for a fine run of home form during the last four months of the season.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland, Fulham and Newcastle United all left Goodison Park empty-handed as Everton scaled the Premier League table to finish in seventh position.
