Betting Preview: Wigan Athletic

Everton welcome Wigan Athletic to Goodison Park on Saturday looking to march on in the FA Cup and set up a fourth trip to Wembley in as many years.

The Blues go in to the game having not lost to the Latics at home since 2005 and, as such, find themselves hot 4/9 favourites to topple Roberto Martinez’s side.

In fact, following victories over Cheltenham Town, Bolton Wanderers and Oldham Athletic in previous rounds, David Moyes’ men are now 4/1 to not only overcome Wigan but go on and lift the trophy on 11 May.

After seeing off Oldham 3-1 in the fifth round replay at Goodison, the Blues recorded the same scoreline against struggling Reading in the Barclays Premier League last weekend and are 10/1 to rack up a third 3-1 win on the bounce.

Paddy Power also make Everton 10/3 to win by exactly two goals, though that’s a feat the Blues haven’t been able to achieve in either of the two meetings between the sides already this season.

At Goodison in December, goals from Leon Osman and Phil Jagielka saw Moyes’ men nick a 2-1 win, while at the DW in October it took a late Leighton Baines penalty to rescue a 2-2 draw after Nikica Jelavic had earlier cancelled our Arouna Kone’s early opener.

Jagielka is a massive doubt for Saturday’s game after suffering an ankle injury against the Royals, but Baines has scored two goals – both penalties – in the competition to date and is 16/5 to score at any time against his former club. Everton are also 7/2 to score from the spot.

Baines’ fellow England international Osman has also bagged two in the cup so far and, like Baines, was on the mark against Oldham in the last round. The midfielder is 15/2 to get the game’s opening goal this time around or 23/10 to breach the net at any time.

Kevin Mirallas’ return from injury is proving timely and the Belgian international has two goals in his last two games.

The former Olympiakos man is 5/1 to open the scoring in this FA Cup quarter-final or 11/8 to score at any time.
