Jo Show Sinks Latics
Re-live the 4-0 thumping of Wigan from April 2009.
Brazilian striker Jo was the hero of the day as he grabbed a brace to help Everton record an emphatic win over Wigan Athletic in April 2009.
The on-loan Manchester City man scored in each half en route to a 4-0 victory – the biggest win the Blues have recorded over Wigan in the 17 previous meetings between the clubs.
Jo broke the deadlock on 26 minutes, firing past Chris Kirkland after Leon Osman’s clever pass.
No more than a minute after the interval the hosts’ lead was doubled, Marouane Fellaini meeting Tony Hibbert’s cross before neatly side-footing into the back of the net.
The Belgian also had a hand in Everton’s third just five minutes later when his shot was parried by Kirkland, allowing Jo to pounce and net his second of the game.
And, on the hour mark, a near carbon copy of events saw Osman tap home an easy fourth following another saved effort from Fellaini.
That victory was one of 17 recorded in the Premier League by David Moyes’ side that season as the Toffees went on to command a more-than-respectable fifth-place finish after accruing 63 points.
