Moyes: Goals Were Top Quality
Manager impressed as Blues ease to win against Reading.
David Moyes was left pleased after his side produced a fluid display of attacking football to see off Reading on Saturday.
Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Steve Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas meant the Blues picked up their second win in five days and earned themselves three valuable points in the race for European qualification.
However, an injury to stand-in skipper Phil Jagielka tempered Moyes’ delight, with the defender now a major doubt for next weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final against Wigan.
“We deservedly got our goal and made a few chances,” he said. “But Reading were always a threat - they hit the bar and were always a danger because that's the way the Premier League is. Whoever you play in the Premier League, the games are tight.
“I thought Seamus Coleman put over a brilliant cross for the first goal. He'd actually put in a couple of good crosses prior to that, but that one was a peach and gave [Fellaini] a really good chance of getting above the defender and heading home.”
But the goal of the game was arguably Pienaar’s, a left-foot rocket into the top corner from 25 yards.
“It was a great goal,” said Moyes. “I'm pleased because he's an important player and I think one of the things which sometimes can be labelled at him, is that maybe he doesn't quite score enough to go with it.
“He's beginning to get us a few goals and today's was right out of the sweet spot. It was good to see.”
Moyes also felt Nikica Jelavic was starting to look more like his old self, adding: “I thought he was [unfortunate]. He looked as if he was a wee bit closer to scoring. The goalkeeper made a couple of half decent saves from him.”
