Leon Osman says he was delighted his 50th goal for Everton helped the team return to form and continue their adventure in this season’s FA Cup.

The midfielder followed up his goal at Norwich with another header against Oldham to effectively put the seal on the Blues’ first win in four matches and reach his half-century in the Club’s colours.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Osman, who now has seven goals for the season, told evertontv.

“I don’t know if anybody else has known about it but I’ve known that it was in my sights. It’s pleasing to get there but I’m more pleased that we went through in the Cup.

“It was 2-0 at half-time and we knew that the next goal would be important, and it turned out to be.

“We went three ahead but if they had scored to make it 2-1 it could have been a nervy finish, so we are pleased that we have progressed in the Cup.”

Everton are now just one win away from Wembley with Wigan Athletic - a team the Toffees have already beaten at Goodison Park this season – standing in the way of a second successive appearance in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Osman, however, is refusing to look too far ahead, particularly with an important Premier League meeting against Reading on the agenda this Saturday afternoon – the second in a sequence of five home fixtures before the end of March.

“It means a lot,” Osman said on the achievement of reaching the FA Cup’s last eight. “We wanted to get ourselves into the quarter-finals of the cup and give ourselves a chance.

“Now we have got a home tie against Wigan which we will be totally committed to in the aim of reaching the quarter-finals.

“We have got to take every game as it comes. I think we are actually concentrating on the Reading game before then.

“We have got a couple of big games coming up and we will try hopefully to win both.”
