Moyes' Attacking Vow

David Moyes insists Everton will do what they did last season and go all out to win at Old Trafford.

The Blues scored four goals on their last visit to the Theatre of Dreams 10 months ago – the first time they had tallied that amount at Manchester United’s home since September 1985.

After consecutive stalemates against Southampton and Swansea, Everton were back amongst the goals last week, hitting the back of the net seven times within the space of eight days.

And Moyes is calling for his players to continue that free-scoring form against a Red Devils defence that has conceded more home goals than any of the teams currently occupying Champions League qualification positions.

“You have to try to have a go at Manchester United. I don’t think you can sit back and allow them to dictate the game,” Moyes said. “At times they will be in possession and will get control of the match, and at those times you have to try and see it out. But whenever we can, we will try to make it as awkward as we can for them.”

Moyes continued: “Last week [against Aston Villa] we had a lot of the ball and a lot of opportunities, but before that I think we had been getting into good positions and not making a clear-cut chance by not selecting the right pass or cross.

“There have been decision making errors in the final third, but I thought last week we were closer to it and that was shown by getting three goals.”

While accepting attack could be the best form of defence against Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, Moyes was also very much aware of United’s home record so far in 2012/13.

The 19-times champions have won all but one league fixture at Old Trafford this season, the only exception being a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham in September.

Moyes continued: “Someone said to me it was 1992 since we won at Old Trafford - that says how difficult the task is.

“But I don’t know any team who have a great record going there – that’s why they have been champions so many times.

“It’s incredible that they are 20 points ahead of us in the league at the moment. We feel as though we are doing well, but that shows that they are having a really good season and are ploughing away.

“It will be a hard job for us but, with a bit of luck, maybe they might have [next Wednesday’s Champions League game against] Real Madrid on their mind.”
