Andy Spence was encouraged with the level of his team's performance as Everton Ladies eased to a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers in their first game of pre-season.
Alex Greenwood and Michelle Hinnigan were on target as the Blues began their preparations for the new campaign, which starts with a Merseyside derby on Saturday 23 March in the Continental Cup.
“It was great to get our first run out of the pre-season against a good Blackburn side,” Spence told evertonfc.com
“The players have put in a tremendous amount of hard work in the first five weeks of pre-season training and the message was to focus on transferring the key messages into the game.
“In the first half, I thought there was some really positive signs of the things we have spoken about. After half-time, our performance level dropped and the game got scrappy but, given it was our first run out, the game provided me with plenty of encouragement that we are heading in the right direction.”
Everton Ladies are next in action this Thursday (14 February) when they welcome a Canadian touring team to Walton Hall Avenue. Kick off is at 7pm, with admission £2 adults and £1 juniors.
The following Tuesday (19 February), Everton Ladies entertain Manchester City, again at Walton Hall Avenue. Kick off for this friendly is at 7.30pm with admission £2 adults and £1 juniors.
