Goal Of The Month Winner
See which Everton strike you voted January's best.
Evertonians have voted Leighton Baines' stunning free-kick against Newcastle as their goal of the month for January.
Five of the Blues' 11 goals from the six games during the month were in the running as part of evertonfc.com's monthly poll.
The left-back's powerful 30-yard drive gave Tim Krul no chance and polled a whopping 65 per cent of the vote, leaving another of his goals a distant second.
Baines again scored from distance against West Brom on 30 January - an effort that garnered 21 per cent of your votes - but it was his cracker at St James' Park that scooped the prize.
Other strikes in the running were Victor Anichebe’s winner against the Magpies, Seamus Coleman’s expert finish at Cheltenham and John Heitinga’s last-minute rocket to ensure FA Cup progression at Bolton.
It was a superb individual month for England man Baines, with four goals and two clean sheets contributing to Everton's unbeaten start to 2013.
He was particularly delighted with his set-piece on Tyneside, however, and admitted it ranks alongside his finest efforts.
He told evertontv: “It'll be up there with my best. It was a good strike. It was quite far out to try to curl it, so I thought it best to put my foot through it. I just thought 'have it' and gave it a good whack, and luckily it went in."
Thanks go to With That Knife for their track ‘Pitchforks’, the soundtrack to our January goal of the month video. If you have a track that you feel may fit the bill for February, please send it to digital.content@evertonfc.com .
