David Moyes says Everton’s new recruit John Stones is a player for the future.
The 18-year-old defender completed his transfer from Barnsley late on Thursday, penning a five-and-a-half year deal.
Moyes is currently without regular right-backs Tony Hibbert and Seamus Coleman and in an exclusive interview with evertontv, the Blues boss said: “We’re pleased. He’s a young boy and I wouldn’t say that it is particularly for now.
“He’s someone that we are bringing in looking towards the future and not for today really.”
Transfer deadline day also saw the departure of Magaye Gueye, who joined Brest on loan until the end of the season.
The midfielder will have the opportunity to play regular first-team football with the French club, who are currently placed 14th in Ligue 1.
Moyes added: “He was involved a lot here and was around the bench, but he was really keen to go back to France at this present time.
“The opportunity came up at the last minute and we gave him that chance to do so.”
Stones will wear the number 26 shirt at Goodison Park.
