Darron Gibson's red card at West Ham has been overturned.

Everton appealed against the sending off which occurred late on during the Blues' 2-1 win over West Ham on 22 December.

The appeal has now been upheld and Gibson will incur no suspension.

The 25-year-old was penalised for a high boot on Hammers midfielder Mark Noble and shown a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor.

Everton confirmed that an appeal had been lodged on Christmas Eve, with Gibson permitted to face Wigan on Boxing Day as the FA scheduled a hearing for Thursday.

And the red card was subsequently quashed, meaning the midfielder avoids the three game ban it would have triggered.

Gibson is now eligible for selection going forward although he was withdrawn at half-time with a thigh strain against the Latics.

West Ham's Carlton Cole, who was also shown a red card for a similar challenge, saw his sending off overturned as well.
