Assistant manager Steve Round believes Saturday's 1-1 draw at Manchester City was an impressive demonstration of Everton's top-four credentials - labelling the performance 'sensational'.

The Blues enjoyed large spells of possession against Roberto Mancini's champions and led through Marouane Fellaini's close-range effort.

But Argentine Carlos Tevez denied the visitors what would have been a memorable victory, slotting home from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.

"It was a sensational performance, the boys were absolutely terrific," Round told evertontv. "I think to be the third game in a week like that and to put the effort in and the commitment that they did, it was truly Everton today. I was really proud of them.

"I thought we dominated the game in the first half and got a deserved lead and then second half they showed what they're all about to be fair. They've got great quality and fantastic players.

"You have to play against what they put out against you and the boys did that. They stood up to it and kept going. It was the effort and commitment, coupled with the courage to play in that arena under that pressure that I was really pleased with.

"We actually looked against Arsenal and here like we're a top four team.

"It's okay just to hang in in a game and nick a result on the counter attack or something like that. But when you can actually take the game to the opposition away from home against a team as good as this, that stands us in good stead for the rest of the season.

"We've got to try to keep everybody fit and, with a little bit of Lady Luck on our side, we might just get there in the end."

joe blumkinIf we can stay healthy and turn it on in the second half of the season like we've done last couple of seasons, we can make CL. it's that or lose Moyesy, Felli, Bainesy and who knows who else...

Dan SorensenI like Steve Round, apparently very highly thought of amongst the coaching community in England, talk sense, obviously proud to be a part of The Peoples Club...possible long-term successor to Moyesey?
