Boss pleased with performance but frustrated by penalty decision.

Moyes: We Matched Man City

David Moyes felt his Everton side were the equal of champions Manchester City after they walked away from Etihad Stadium with a deserved 1-1 draw.

The Blues took the lead on 33 minutes when the in-form Marouane Fellaini turned in from close range but a Carlos Tevez penalty on the stroke of half-time denied the visitors what would've been a fifth win in six outings at the stadium.

"I thought we were full value," said Moyes. "We played really well and we had good passing and control of the game in the first half at times, though I'd like to see us be a bit more clinical when we get in the box.

"But, in the end, we got our goal to go in front and I didn't think that was a surprise really."

Not for the first time this season, Moyes was disappointed with a decision that went against his team, the Scot claiming the penalty awarded against Fellaini was harsh.

"The disappointing thing is that we were asking the fourth official what the penalty was given for and he said it was [Leon] Osman for a tug on [Edin] Dzeko," he explained. "Anybody that was here would have said it certainly wasn't Osman, but that's what the fourth official told us and he had been told by the referee.

"It was actually Fellaini and if it was a penalty kick, well, we're going to have to be giving penalties in every single game.

"There were two guys, 6'4", going for the ball in a competitive game. It's a hard enough place to come without having soft penalties given against you."

ian wilkinsonwould have like to have seen vellios on for last half hour .fresh legs an all.

barry heyesThey would never have scored in open play if the game had gone on for another hour! We should have had all three points and we need to defend like that against the lower teams in the division ..

Jeremy BenthamReally solid performance all round, held on under pressure in the 2nd half, and with the rub of the green could have taken all 3 points.
